Nesta in summer training

MILANELLO – Milan Channel’s microphones and cameras had proposed him to the subscribers almost a year ago. It was 16 July 2008, the day of last year’s Reunion, the day of Ronaldinho. The fans roared with enthusiasm and he, Sandro Nesta, was struggling to walk. But not just that. He said: “Today there is a lot of euphoria but the climate and the humor don’t go on the pitch, it will be on the pitch that we’ll have to deserve all this enthusiasm.” After that declaration, which is some ways was prophetic, Sandro continued to have problems walking. But now Nesta isn’t skipping a single training, including today and yesterday, since 8 May 2009, adding also the work done during the vacations, and now he goes back to speaking to Milan’s channel under the eyes of his fans.

Sandro came back in the last quarter of an hour in Florence, sealing the Rossoneri’s return to the Champions League, but now his view is projected forward: “This year for me is very important, from many points of view. I have to understand the situation well, I want to understand how my future will be. I am confident and think it will be a positive year. I did the first few trainings and I feel well, I think and hope to have recovered from last year’s problem. I managed to give continuity to my work, I’ve worked a lot, the true test now will be when we’ll go to the United States, with many matches close together. But I’m happy, the pains have gone, I’m confident.”

On the passage from trainings to matches, the Milan champion said: “Trainings can never be like matches, to understand it it’s enough to compare how you feel the day after a training and the day after a match. During a match there are torsions, jumps, contrasts, clashes, movements, which you never do during trainings. We’ll see. Again, I am happy and available. Now I see we are adopting a different training method, new also in my career. I think that during the preparation period, I’ve always had to run a lot, since the time of Zeman. Today we had the first physical training, we thought it would be less tough because it was with the ball: in reality we worked very hard, because it’s work that trains the player to be more precise with the ball, like during games.”

Finally, a few references to what happened in the first half of 2009 to Alessandro Nesta: “The article that contained voices on my future in football? Initially it bothered me, but in the end it brought me luck. I had other tough injuries during my career, and I always came back. I’ve done it this time too.” In closing, Sandro was asked if he was charged up by the page of best wishes dedicated to him by in March by his family during Father’s Day: “Yes, it pleased me. There were the names of my children. It was a nice thing in a particular moment.”
